Every animal needs exercise! It might be an exercise wheel for small ones, toys that make them run and jump, play groups/daycare or good, old-fashioned walks. Things that make the most sense for your household might also do double duty: social and physical. The goal is building confidence, reassuring them of their importance in your family, teaching them new things, and helping them to maintain healthy bodies. I talk to animals, not just in commands or sweet phrases, but actually holding conversations with them. I do this with my dogs at home! While they don't speak the human way, they are comforted by the human voice and often respond in eye contact or touch gestures. For me, this is part of socialization. I highly recommend it! If you walk your dog, offer a variety of places, maybe invite friends to join you. All of this strengthens your pup's social confidence. With kitty cats, start socialization early in their lives. If you adopt an older cat, establish your relationship with her first, then invite others to join, turn on music while you play, find fun climbing toys for them, and give them special time with you for treats and cuddles.
